Wilmetta Eckelberg

Wilmetta Florin Eckelberg, age 86 of Montello passed away Tuesday morning, July 12, 2016 at the Montello Care Center. Wilmetta was born in Oakdale, WI on June 19, 1930 to Edward and Martha (Rieck) Schendel. She was baptized on August 1, 1930 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Indian Creek and was confirmed in faith on March 25, 1945 in Kendall. Wilmetta attended Kendall High School and furthered her education at La Crosse State College and was a teacher for several years. She married Reinold Eckelberg on July 14, 1956 in Elroy and have been blessed with 60 years of marriage. Wilmetta enjoyed family, watching the birds and her flowers. Wilmetta is survived by her husband of 60 years, Reinold and four children: Steven of Manitowoc, Monica (Joseph) Zauner of Oak Creek, Nancy (Paul) Condon of Watertown and Scott (Amy) of Slinger. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Joseph (Melissa) Zauner, Leslie (Steve) Campbell, Tracie (Tony) Velardo, Andrew Condon, Rachel (Joe) Stommel, Richard Condon, Alyssa Condon, Caitlin Condon, Bryan (fiancAC. Shelby) Eckelberg and Adam Eckelberg. She is further survived by ten great-grandchildren. Wilmetta is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Charles (Ramona) Schendel and sister, Marlene (Bernard) Blank. A funeral service for Wilmetta Eckelberg will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montello. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Vicar Geoff Rue will preside and burial will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran School, 313 E. Montello Street, Montello, WI 53949.
