Wanda Jeane Hardie, age 70 of Montello passed away peacefully on Monday evening, February 28, 2011 surrounded by her family at her home. Wanda was born on May 14, 1940 in Alliance, OH to Herbert and Thelma (Johnson) Rummel. She graduated from high school in 1958 and entered the U.S. Navy where she served her country and also met Marlowe Hardie whom she married on March 7, 1959 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Wanda worked as a licensed practical nurse and also cared for her family. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo and ceramics along with spending time with her family. Wanda was a founding member of The People's Church and also a past member of the Montello Lions Club. Wanda is survived by her husband Marlowe of almost 52 years and four children: Marlowe Joseph of Washington, Karla Kissman of Iowa, Ralph of Virginia and James of Montello. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and many friends. Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Willene Belle Hardie, daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hardie and three brothers: Herbert, Walter and Karl. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 4th at 6:00p.m. at The People's Church, 3045 15th Road, Montello. Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Mark Hensley will officiate and full military honors will be performed following the service by American Legion Post 351 of Montello. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family. Crawford Funeral Home of Montello is assisting the family.
