Verna Gelhar

Verna M. Gelhar, age 85, of Markesan passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, March 12, 2011 at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. She was born on July 5, 1925 in Dalton, the daughter of Margaret and Rudolph Graff. Verna was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Dalton. On October 5, 1947, she married Marvin Gelhar and together they lived in the Markesan area all of their married life. Verna is survived her son, Grant (Nancy) of Madison, her daughter, Garnet (Dan) Adams of Windsor and four grandchildren: Erica (Matt) Becker, Jon (Greer) Adams, Katie (Michael) Bruce and Ben Gelhar. She is further survived by great-grandson, Luke Bruce as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 65 W. Catherine St, Markesan, WI 53946. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Jason Jobs will officiate and burial will follow at the Markesan Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg.
