Thora Bro

Thora 'Connie' Bro, age 95 of Montello, WI and also of Katy, TX, passed away peacefully, Sunday afternoon, May 27, 2012 surrounded by her family at home. She was born in Bode, Iowa on July 26, 1916 to Henry and Sarah Gullixson. Connie graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls with a degree in Education. She later married Harold 'Ed' Bro on December 20, 1941 in Yorkville, IL at the home of her sister, Ada Dickson. Connie had four sisters and two brothers with whom she shared a very strong family bond. Connie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved coming to Montello to the family farm; especially when entertaining family and friends. Connie loved her horses, her flowers, her faith and most of all, her family. One of her favorite quotes was 'How green is my grass' which summarized her love of nature. Connie is survived by her four children: Brian (Ramona) of Sugarland, TX, Laura (Ellis Tesh) Bro of Blythewood, SC, Randy (Denise) of Belleville, TX and Janet (John) Goetz of Montello as well as her eight grandchildren: Paul and T.J. Zeveski, Russell Gregory and Frank Rostan, Amanda and Madeline Bro, Frank Valenti and Monique Winningham. She is also survived by her one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Benham as well as her brother, Roger Gullixson. Connie is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ed as well as her four sisters: Stella, Lois, Ada, Doris and one brother, Walter. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Pete Zietlow will officiate and burial will follow at the U.P. Cemetery, Buffalo Township. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran College, 700 Luther Drive, Mankato, MN 56001. Crawford Funeral Home of Montello is assisting the family with arrangements.
