Roy Salzwedel

Roy W. Salzwedel, age 74 passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014. He was born on September 23, 1939 William J. Salzwedel and Anna M. Salzwedel (nee: Barron) in Marquette County, Township of Buffalo, Montello, Wisconsin. He was married to Marliene M. David (nee: Schmitz) on September 23, 1988 in Portage, Wisconsin. Roy Joined the United States Air Force in February 1958 and retired March 1978. During his service career he was stationed in New Mexico, Florida, North Carolina, North Dakota, Michigan and Montana. He also served in Korea 1960-1961, Vietnam 1967-1968 and Korea 1975-1976. Roy also served as a Bailiff in the Fourth Judicial Court, Boise, Idaho and other law enforcement and security positions. In August 1981 he joined the Department of Corrections, State of Wisconsin, and was a Corrections Officer at Waupun Correctional Institution for five years and later at Columbia Correctional Institution, Portage Wisconsin until retired January 24, 2005. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and he loved to play bingo. He had a green thumb and enjoyed spending time working in his many flower gardens. He volunteered at the "Make a Wish Foundation" in Florida and at the Montello Care Center in Montello. Roy loved his church family and enjoyed 25 years with his beloved wife Marlie. He is survived by his wife, Marliene, daughter, Linda S. Potts (Bob), Boise Idaho, Robert W. Salzwedel, Washington and Laura S. Salzwedel (Eugene Karen), Boise, Idaho. He is further survived by his step-children, daughter, Debra M. Coleman, Stevens Point, son, Kevin B. Snyder (Teresa) , Decatur, IL and daughter Melissa R. Minnema (Jason), Montello, WI. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and cousins. He also leaves behind his special cat friends: Trouble and T two. He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Salzwedel, mother Anne Buchanan and two sisters, Donna M. Coleman, Milwaukee, WI. and Sandra Krueger, Montello, WI. granddaughter Tristen Potts, Boise, Idaho and two brother-in-laws, Robert Kollaszar and James, both of Montello, WI. A Celebration of Life hosted by the family will be held on Saturday, August 30th at Marquette Community Church, 610 Doty Street, Montello from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at the Eastside Cemetery.
