Montello

Robert “Rob” L. Clark, age 67 of Montello, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at his home.  He was born on September 20, 1955 in Queens, NY to William and Louise (Shanahan) Clark.

Rob relocated to Madison, Wi. with his mother, two sisters and brother in 1969.  He was a class of ’73 graduate from Madison West High School. Rob loved his baseball playing in the City of Madison hardball league in the 1970’s and 80’s. The team started as the self-sponsored and proclaimed “Longhairs”. They were officially sponsored by the Rafters Bar first and then the Red Shed.

He began his cable dog days in the 70’s working for Elmquest Cable Contractors out of Madison. That’s where he met Paul his soon to be business partner and best friend. They started Cable Contractors Inc. in 1979 when cable tv was the latest and greatest thing.  From cable TV he shifted into the telephone business working for Grant Electronics out of Madison for 30 plus years until he retired in 2017.

Rob enjoyed his retirement traveling south in the winter with Joyce in the RV. He vacationed at White Lake in Montello for years and was so happy when he purchased a home there, finally relocating permanently after he retired. His biggest enjoyment was hanging out at the beach with family and the grandchildren.

Rob touched many lives and was always there when needed. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.

Rob is survived by his wife, Joyce; three children, Jenni, Julie and Jamie Hughes; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Marylou Marshal, Helen Clark and Barbara (Gary) Whitehorse; brother, John (Barbara) Clark; many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Billy, Eddie, Tommy, Joey and brother-in-law, James Marshal.

A celebration of Rob’s life will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Smokin Oak BBQ, 567 Underwood Ave./Highway 23, Montello.
