Robert "Bob" Bornick, age 76 of Montello passed away unexpectedly surrounded by his family following a brief illness Sunday evening, June 8, 2014 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Bob was born in Montello on October 8, 1937 to Edwin and Wilma (Jones) Bornick. He graduated from Montello High School in 1955 and went on to valiantly serve his country as a member of the United States Navy. After returning from the service, he worked for various businesses in Montello before beginning his career with the Marquette County Highway Department. He worked as the parts manager for over 30 years until retirement.
Bob married Jessie Montero in the Philippines on April 12, 1993. Together they were active members of Trinity United Methodist Church and also enjoyed traveling. Bob was a longtime member of the Montello Volunteer Fire Department, enjoyed many years of playing slow pitch softball, and in his retirement kept himself busy driving for Car Quest. He was an avid Packer and Brewers fan. Bob loved his family very much and will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and caring personality. We will always love him forever. Bob leaves behind his wife, Jessie and three children: Brian (Michelle) of Northfield, MN, Mitzi (Mark) Putzke of Berlin and Ray Bornick as well as six grandchildren: Kylee, Kendra, Logan, Henry, Jordyn and Paul. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Bean of Huntley, IL as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Genevieve (Keith) Valesh, Mavis (James) Murray and brother-in-law, Sherman Bean. A funeral service for Bob will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Rev. Dr. Julius Montero will officiate and immediately following the service military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 351 of Montello. Private family inurnment will be held at the Montello City Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
