Phyllis Manning

Phyllis Frances Manning , age 103 of Montello passed away peacefully Thursday, February 20, 2020 surrounded by her family at St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo.  Phyllis was born in Darlington on August 12, 1916 to Charles and Olive (Riley) Ward.  Following high school, she became a beautician.  Phyllis was united in marriage to Leslie Harris, he passed away in 1947.  She then married Bernard Manning on June 4, 1955 in Oregon, IL; he preceded her in death in 1996.

Phyllis owned and operated several salons in Oregon.  She and Bernie came to Pardeeville and bought a farm and built The Bayview Resort on Park Lake.  In retirement, she and Bernie spent summers in Oxford and winters in the south.  Phyllis enjoyed crafting and going to craft fairs.  While her health allowed, she was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello.  Phyllis will be remembered as a hardworking, devoted and caring person.

Phyllis is survived by six children: Collene Suter of Dixon, IL, Connie (Delbert) Hillison of Montello, Judy (Cliff) Behrendt of Reedsburg, Gregory (Janelle) Manning of Lodi, Rita (Phillip) Bortz of Pardeeville and Marcia (Dave) Meise of Prairie du Sac.  She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren as well as sister, Codelle Leonard.  Phyllis is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Phyllis is preceded in death by her son, Bernard Manning, sons-in-law:  Joe Suter and Michael Maier, granddaughter, Lara Maier, brother, Harlowe Ward and brother-in-law, George Leonard.

A funeral service for Phyllis Manning will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the hour of service.  Pastor Kristen Lowe will preside and burial will follow at the Montello Eastside Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to a Humane Society of your choice.
