Paul Mehling

Paul Walter Mehling, age 69 of Montello passed away unexpectedly Saturday January 28, 2023, at ThedaCare Medical Center in Berlin.  Paul was born in Watertown to Robert and Eunice (Cull) Mehling on December 14, 1953.  He graduated from Arrowhead High School in 1972 and married Barbara Dechant at St. Charles Catholic Church in Hartland; from that union came one greatly loved daughter, Babette.  

Paul’s career as an over-the-road truck driver spanned 45 years until he retired in January 2020.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating.  Paul was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello and volunteered at various church functions as well as Ruby’s Pantry in Montello.  Most of all Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and will be remembered for being a very caring and selfless person. He truly had a servant’s heart and had a gift for making friends with everyone he met.

He will sadly be missed by his beloved wife of 47 years, Barbara, and their daughter, Babette (Paul Petersen) Mehling of Montello. He was the proud grandfather of Ethan, John and Ava Wagner.  He is also survived by seven siblings:  Judith Tabor, Jerome (Sandra) Mehling, Leo (Eiko) Mehling, James (Lana Sue) Mehling, Mark (Sharon) Mehling, Donna (Robert) Sizer and Eileen Pape as well as sisters-in-law: Diana Rea, Vicki Mehling and Gertrude Dechant.  Paul is further survived by his aunt, Dorothy Cull, Kaylee and Kayden Petersen as well as many other extended family members.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Eunice (Cull) Mehling, siblings: Sharon, Charles, Michael, Patrick and Phillip, in-laws: Johann and Erna Dechant and brothers-in-law: Gunter and Alfred Dechant.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Paul Mehling will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:45 AM at the church.  Father John Silva will preside and burial will follow at the parish cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that will be established in Paul’s name.
