Paul G. Duesterhoeft, age 83 of Montello passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage following a courageous battle with cancer. Paul was born on February 20, 1928 to George and Elizabeth (Hoeft) Duesterhoeft at their farm house in the Township of Montello. Paul was baptized and confirmed at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Township of Mecan by the late Rev. William J. Hartwig. On August 14, 1955 he was united in marriage to Edith Buchholz at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montello by the late Rev. Walter Oelhafen. In the early 1950's, Paul was employed at Freitag's Implement business as a mechanic and later worked at Speed Queen in Ripon. He then went into business as a building contractor; including S & D Builders with Robert Schlaefer for a few years, followed by 30 years together with his brother, John, as D & D Builders. Paul was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for 55 years and served on various committees. He also served as an alderman for the city of Montello as well as a member of the Public Safety Committee. Paul is survived by his wife Edith of 55 years, one daughter, Susan Kruger and her husband James of Westfield, one son, Kurt of Rockford, IL and a special grandson, Jakob John Kruger. He is also survived by a brother, John, and his wife Caroline of Westfield, and a sister-in-law, Sharon, and her husband, Dick Anderson of Waupun, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, William and Leona Buchholz, and two infant daughters, Kay Lynn and Lori Jean. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Montello. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home and again on Monday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Pastors Pete Zietlow and R. F. Westendorf will officiate and burial will follow at the Montello Eastside cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church or the Budda Box Fight Against Cancer. Crawford Funeral Home of Montello is serving the family.
