Norman Johnson

Norman 'Norm' J. Johnson, age 83 of Montello passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Norm was born on September 29, 1927, the son of Harry and Esther Johnson in Green Bay, WI. Norm served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. Following his time in service, he worked for over 50 years as a truck driver hauling freight across the country. Norm moved to Montello in 1992; he remained an active veteran as a member of both American Legion Post 244 of Westfield and VFW Post 6003 of Oxford. He served as a city council member and also an alderman to the City of Montello as well as volunteering for the Commission on Aging and the local Food Pantry. Norm was also a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Norm leaves behind his wife, Georgiana of 32 years as well as nine children: Leonard of Coon Rapids, MN, Donald (Felice) of Shoreview, MN, Patricia (Ken) Moegle of East Bethel, MN, Michael (Beth) of Medina, MN, Janet (Jeff) Lehman of Coon Rapids, MN and Carol (Mike) Smith-Medina of Anoka, MN, Robert (special friend Barbara Clark) Voight Jr. of Carrollton, TX, Gary (Peggy) Voight of Spring, TX and Sharon (Scott) Baumruck of Whitestown, IN. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Norm is further survived by his brother Wayne (Lori) of Wausau, WI and special niece, Donna Johnson of Shawano, WI and a nephew, Dale Johnson of Dyer, IN. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends. Norm is preceded in death by his parents, son, Kenneth, September 11, 1958 and an infant granddaughter, Jannessa Smith, January 25, 1989. He is also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Joan Johnson Haflund as well as his mothers-in-law: Martha Wiltgen and Besse Stefek. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Sue Bryce officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and again from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday. Immediately following the service, full military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 244 of Westfield together with the VFW Post 6003 of Oxford. Following the traditional service, Norm's wishes are to be cremated and private family inurnment will take place in the Laona Cemetery near Crandon, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Budda Box Fight Against Cancer, P.O. Box 91, Westfield, 53964. Crawford Funeral Home of Montello is serving the family.
