Nancy Garkey

Nancy L. Garkey, age 71 of Montello (White Lake) and formerly of Rockford, IL, passed away at her home, Saturday morning December 20, 2014 with her family by her side. Nancy was born on February 9, 1943 at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, IL to Phillip M. Thompson and Mary Lucille (Alexander) Thompson. She later married Robert L. Garkey on June 16, 1962 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Rockford, Illinois. Together, they worked and raised three children in Rockford, and spent many weekends and vacations in the Green Lake area of Wisconsin. Nancy and Bob retired in 2004 to the White Lake countryside of Montello, WI after building a new home on the golf course. Nancy loved golfing with her lady friends and the senior couple's league. In the first five years of her retirement, she enjoyed renewing her interest in her artwork and crafting with many new paintings to decorate her newly built "dream home." Nancy also belonged to the White Lake Red Hat Ladies and enjoyed the monthly luncheons with that group. She also loved spending time with family, many of whom continue to live part-time in the Green Lake area. Survivors include: her husband, Robert, mother, Mary Lucille Cooper of Rockford, IL. Also three children: Michele (Todd) Haas of Rockton, IL, Tracy (Gary) Daniel of Rockford, IL, and Gregory of Green Lake, WI. Survivors also include three grandsons: Eric Haas of Macomb, IL, Alexander Haas of Tampa, FL, and Joshua (Michelle) Kampmeier of Surprise, AZ. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Destiny, Ambriel, and Brennan of Freeport, IL. Survivors further include four siblings: Patricia (Lyle) Oakland of Machesney Park, IL, Sharon (Steve) Heisler of Simpsonville, SC, Richard (Deb) Thompson, and Daniel (Connie) Thompson, both of Roscoe, IL. Also, many nieces and nephews, and many cherished and dear friends. Nancy is preceded in death by her father, Phillip in 1972. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 453 E. Park St., Montello, WI 53949. The family will greet friends and relatives from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. Inurnment will be in private. In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations are preferred to the Buddha Box Fight Against Cancer, P. O. Box 91, Westfield, WI 53964.
