Muriel Patricia Kaenel, age 83, of Montello entered into heaven on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on November 17, 1930 in Illinois, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Connolly. Muriel was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" W. Kaenel on December 10, 1947 in Missouri. Together they moved to Montello in 1970.
Muriel was a homemaker, but also worked a variety of jobs outside the home throughout her life, including telephone operator, waitress, and factory worker, among others. She treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as her "adopted" grandchildren. Muriel also enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, gardening, working in the yard, craft projects, especially for weddings, word search puzzles, crocheting, cooking and dancing.
Muriel is survived by her husband, Robert, sons: Robert J (Ruby) and William P (Rhonda) and daughter, Mary (Keith) Johnson all of Montello. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth (James) Hayek of Bloomington, Illinois, brother-in-law, Albert (Elsie) Kaenel of Illinois, and sisters-in-law: Theresa Kaenel and Jeanie Gorenson both of Illinois and sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Dick) Powell of Arizona. Muriel is further survived by grandchildren: Robert John (Shannon) Kaenel of Wautoma, Steven Miner of St. Petersburg, Florida, Christopher Hooper of Phoenix, Arizona, Melissa (William) Viken of Deerfield, Wisconsin, Denise (Stephen) LaSure of Deerfield, Wisconsin, Jacob (Jennifer) Kaenel, Neil (Carrie) Johnson, Joshua (Kelly Jo), Travis, Teale, and Thomas Kaenel all of Montello as well as twenty-two great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, her adopted grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews, "The Illinois Family" and other family and friends.
Muriel is preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, Albert Kaenel, mother-in-law, Myrtle Kaenel, sister, Katherine Zenner, daughter, Laura Claudia Kaenel, granddaughter, Sharon Lynn Kater, grandson, Brian W. Johnson, great-granddaughter, Carsin Stinson and two brothers-in-law: Kenneth and Richard Kaenel.
Muriel will be remembered for her feistiness, her strong work ethic, her generosity, her sense of humor and her incredible strength. She will be greatly missed by those lucky enough to have been touched by her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Muriel will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. The family will receive friends and relatives from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Father Tim Renz will preside and inurnment will be private.
