Michael Mills

Michael Edward Mills, age 68 of Oxford passed away Friday, June 21, 2024. Mike was born on July 17, 1955 to Edward and Jeanette (Freeman) Mills in Chicago, IL. He was united in marriage on July 7, 1978 to Vickie Coon in Waukegan, Il; together they were blessed with three children. They moved to Florida shortly after marriage and resided there for many years. 

While living in Florida, when not found in his garage, Mike could often be found working on boats combining his love of the ocean with his talent for fabrication. He was employed by Ocean Display Signs for many years before relocating to Wisconsin. 

While in Wisconsin, Mike was employed by Badger Display Signs before retiring. He made many iconic large electronic signs around the Madison area. 

Mike was a stoic man, who was a master of many trades. Which included carpentry, welding, mechanics, building and remodeling- there wasn't much that he couldn't do. He remodeled his own home and helped family and friends with countless projects. He enjoyed his trips to Menards and the casinos. 

Most of all, Mike loved his family and cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his many talents, cracking jokes, his quick wit and sharp tongue, all in good fun. His love of having a good time was contagious. 

Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Vickie and three children: Matthew (Christine) Hernandez of Wisconsin Dells, Kristine Ellis of Oxford and Crystal Jeske (Brian Mercer) of New Holstein as well as six grandchildren: Savannah, Nastassja, Hailye, Caydon, Allevia and Michael James. 

He is also survived by siblings: Linda Lindas, Donna (Tom) Kolar, Joseph “Butch” Mills, Laverne (Chuck) Burress, Ed (Alejandra Rojas) Mills and Jeannie (Tony) Joseph along with many other extended family members.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Rick Lindas and in-laws: Edward and Joy Coon.

Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, laughter and good times will live on through his cherished family and all those who were lucky enough to know him.

A Memorial Service for Michael Mills will be held on Sunday, June 30th, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Crawford Funeral Home in Oxford. Visitation will be held from noon until the hour of service. Immediately following the service, a Celebration of Mike’s Life will take place at Generation’s in Oxford. Private inurnment will take place at the Oxford Village Cemetery at a later date.
