Michael Oakes

Michael James Oakes, 59 of Montello died unexpectedly Monday, February 4, 2013. He was born in Portage on March 31, 1953 to Sidney and Rose (Kleist) Oakes. Mike graduated from Montello High School in 1971 and went on to become a master plumber. He owned and operated Oakes Plumbing for many years. Mike was an avid outdoorsman; especially deer hunting as well as gardening. In his younger years, he also enjoyed playing softball and spending time with his friends. Mike cared for his family very much and his children will remember the many memories they made together. Mike is survived by his mother, Rose of Montello and three children: Cortney (Shawn 'Scrappy') Drew of Montello, Cody of Montello and Kelsey Oakes of Larkspur, CA. He is also survived by three siblings: Linda Clark of Fond du Lac, Rick (Mary) of Montello and Kathy (Zig) Zigler of Chicago, IL. Mike is further survived by the mother of his children, Mary Oakes of Chandler, AZ and loving friend, Linda Welke. Mike is preceded in death by his father, Sidney. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at The People's Church, 3045 15th Road, Montello. A memorial gathering will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Mark Hensley will officiate and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
