Melvin J. Yasick, age 72 of Montello passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, June 14, 2011 surrounded by his family at his home. Mel was born in Princeton, WI on February 7, 1939 to Stephen and Eleanor (Woitkielwitz) Yasick. He graduated from Ripon High School in 1957. Mel served his country as a member of the United States Army as well as the National Guard from 1960 until 1966. On October 15, 1960 he married Rose Ann Bednarek at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Mel retired from Wisconsin Power and Light in 1994 after 31 years; he also drove for the Commission on Aging in both Marquette and Sauk Counties and was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Mel was an avid outdoorsman and artist; he also enjoyed bowling, playing cards with his grandchildren and especially family reunions. Mel is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rose Ann and four children: Melvin Jr. (Cathy) of Mazomanie, Cindy (John) Goldapske of North Fond du Lac, Connie (Gary) Hames of Sobieski and Tim of Reedsburg. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jeff, Dan and Andy Yasick, Amy (fianci�½ Adam Gratton), Sam and Jenna Goldapske, and Josh, Joe and Jacob Hames as well as a sister, Mary Ann Remmenga of Freedom. Mel is further survived by sisters-in-law: Darlene Yasick, Marge Bednarek and Geri Bednarek as well as three brothers-in-law: Ray (Faye) Bednarek, Jim (Pat) Bednarek and Del Hartford along with many nieces and nephews. Mel is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Joseph, brother, Eugene Yasick, sister, Kathleen Colson, brothers-in-law, John Bednarek, Edmund Bednarek Jr. and Ralph Remmenga as well as a sister-in-law Agnes Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 453 E. Park St, Montello and again on Saturday at church from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Father Michael Richel will preside and burial with full military honors will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Princeton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family; a memorial in Mel's name is being established. Crawford Funeral Home of Montello is serving the family.
