Mary E. (Kearns) Metcalf, age 86 of Montello passed away peacefully with her loving husband Vincent by her side Thursday morning, November 3, 2011 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Mary was born on September 13, 1925 in Portage to Harry and Lorena (Cotter) Kearns. She attended grade school at the Brick School in Buffalo Township, high school in Portage for two years and then graduated from Montello High School in 1943. Following high school she worked at Badger Ordinance and then continued her education at Edgewood College and finished her teaching degree at UW-Stevens Point. On September 26, 1953 she married Vincent Metcalf at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Buffalo Township. Mary taught elementary school for over 30 years with the majority being 1st grade with the Westfield School District. She enjoyed antiquing, traveling, history and spending time with her family as well as being an avid Packers fan. Mary was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello where she was a member of St. Ann's Circle and praying the rosary with the residents of the Montello Care Center. Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, Vincent and four children: Mary Ellen (Bill) Sayles of Huson, MT, Jim (Jeanne) of Montello, Harry (Stacy) of Montello and Kathy (Jack) Knox of Butler, MO. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jesse (Leigh) Metcalf, Hope (Ryan) Kendell, Heidi (Chad) Marshall, Gretchen Metcalf, Lynn Metcalf, Chelci Metcalf and Kate Knox as well as four step-grandchildren: Scott (Diane) Sayles, Kent (Emily) Sayles, Jacqueline (Matt) Iseler and Julie (Stu) Jackson and one great-grandson, Ethan Metcalf. Mary is further survived by four siblings: Maurice (Mary) Kearns, Rose Ann (Walter) Brunsman, Kathy Eckhardt and Jean Rosmanowski and sister-in-law, Joanne Dunn and numerous other family members. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jim Kearns as well as many other family members. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the church with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. and again visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Father Michael Richel will officiate and burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Montello. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Marquette County Care and Share Food Bank or Commission on Aging Transportation Program; both programs share the address of P.O.
