Martin Travis

Martin 'Marty' Travis, age 81, of Montello passed away peacefully, Wednesday evening, May 2, 2012 surrounded by his family at his home. Marty was born in Chicago on September 11, 1930 to John and Mary (Trlak) Travis. Marty valiantly served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He later married Irene Cotte in Addison, Il on February 5, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, from that marriage came three daughters. Marty worked for Borg-Warner in Bellwood, Il for 42 years as a personnel manager until he retired in 1991 and in 1994, he and Irene permanently moved to Montello. In his younger years, Marty was an avid baseball player and also enjoyed hunting, golf, fishing and woodworking. He was an active member of American Legion Post 351 of Montello where he served as commander for multiple terms and as chaplain for many years. Marty loved his family very much and without question enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren. Marty leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Irene and his three daughters: Gretchen Travis of Elgin, Il, Paula (Glen) Kmiec of Montello and Maureen (Bruce) Krivanek of Montello as well as his two grandchildren: Brett and Anna Krivanek. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth (Sandy) of Schaumburg, Il and many nieces, nephews and other family members. Marty is preceded in death by his parents, brother, John (Sue) Travis and sister, Lillian Klante. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the hour of service. Rev. Denise Cole will officiate and full military honors will be performed immediately following the service by American Legion Post 351 of Montello. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to American Legion Post 351 of Montello or Home Health United Hospice.
