Martha Gaffney

Martha Kay Gaffney , age 66 of Oxford passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Waupun Memorial Hospital in Waupun.  Martha was born on July 20, 1955 in Portage to Edwin and Delia (Griffin) Nelson.  Martha graduated from Westfield High School in 1973 and furthered her education at Madison Cosmetology College.  Martha was united in marriage to Kim Gaffney on September 8, 1973 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Briggsville. Together, Kim and Martha were blessed to raise three daughters. Martha lived a life that radiated love for her family, her friends, and the Lord. Martha especially enjoyed all the time she spent with her children and grandchildren, making memories camping, cooking, and laughing. Martha’s unwavering faith brought her peace and joy throughout her journey. Nana “G” lived every day with a heart full of love, ready to make anyone laugh, dance with the grandchildren, or enjoy special moments with friends. Thank you, Nana “G” for being the wonderful person we were so blessed to know and to love; we will cherish the memories we have forever!

Martha leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Kim and three daughters: Kimberly (Jon) Mast of Dalton, Katie (Jason Sengbusch) Bignell of Oxford and Abbey (Chris) Stenske of Kingston as well as nine grandchildren:  Alexis (Justin), Noah (Kayla), Gracie, Ryan, Tyler, Mitchell, Taylor, Beckett and Teagan.  She is also survived by three sisters: Donna (Skitch) Mackenzie, Roberta (Tom) Roos and Patricia (Randy) Mitmoen as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Joseph Nelson and sister, Mary Nelson.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Martha Gaffney will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 2:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the hour of mass.   Father Savio Yerasani will preside and burial will follow the service at the Greenwood Cemetery, Town of Buffalo, Marquette County.  In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that will be established in Martha’s name.
