Margaret Procknow

Margaret Isabel Procknow, age 95 of Oxford/Madison passed away peacefully Saturday morning, November 15, 2014 at the Sun Prairie Health Care Center in Sun Prairie. Margaret was born on July 4, 1919 on the family farm in the town of Oxford to R. Judd and Luella (Neilson) Dunn; she was the eldest of four children. Margaret graduated from Oxford High School in 1937 and furthered her education at the Madison Business School. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Krogers in Madison and Freitag's Garage in Montello. Margaret married William Procknow in 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church in Westfield. Together they resided in Oxford most of their lives until moving to Madison in 1999 to be closer to family; Bill preceded Margaret in death in 2011.

Margaret worked as the Deputy Register of Deeds of Marquette County from 1940 until 1943; in 1965 she was appointed to Register of Deeds and continued at the position, being elected for several terms. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oxford and a member of the VFW Post 6003 Ladies Auxiliary. Margaret enjoyed bowling, golfing, and traveling. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and doing all the things her husband and daughters asked her to do. Margaret always said, "That's what I'm here for." She was very devoted to her family and always optimistic and will be missed by all who knew her. Margaret leaves behind her two daughters: Linda Ripley of Monona and Nancy (George) Natzke of Lodi as well as three grandchildren: Paula (Curt) Kodl of Cottage Grove, Stacy (Paul) Kemnitzer of McFarland and Mitchell (Laurie) Ripley of Pewaukee. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Allison and Alexis Kemnitzer and Addison and Ashlyn Kodl as well as her sister, Lucille Morgan, brother-in-law, Robert (Donna) Procknow and sister-in-law, Shirley Procknow.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: George and Kenneth, brothers-in-law: Jay Morgan, Anthony Jonikas and Lloyd Procknow as well as sisters-in-law: Amy Dunn and Kathryn Jonikas. A funeral service for Margaret Procknow will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Oxford. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Brenda Pulver will preside and burial will follow at the Oxford Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of Oxford, 210 S. Miller Street, Oxford, WI 53952.
