Liola Meta Crown , age 96 of Montello, fell asleep in the Lord Jesus, Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Liola was born in Fox Lake on July 13, 1925 to Alfred and Elsie (Rahn) Schultz. She attended a one-room rural school and Fox Lake High School and furthered her education at Columbia County Normal College and the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. Liola married Harley Crown on March 31, 1945 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fox Lake; that was the same church she was baptized and confirmed in. Harley preceded Liola in death on July 14, 2019.
Liola taught rural school for 14 years and First Grade in Horicon for 24 years. In retirement, she and Harley relocated to Montello and became active members at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where served in the Ladies Aid and LWMS. She was the President of the Marquette County Retired Educators for many years, loved to garden and sew. She designed many quilts for relatives and friends but poor vision robbed her of her love for sewing. Liola loved taking care of her great-granddaughters and attending their sporting events. She loved to fish and enjoyed camping as well as traveling with Harley to Europe. Liola will be remembered for her faith, hope, and love, as well as a cheerful outlook.
Liola is survived by daughter-in-law, Karen Crown of Omro, two grandchildren: Stewart (Sue) Crown and Stacie Crown and great-grandchildren: Tim (Amy) Crown, Hannah Crown, Luke Crown, Olivia (Mitch) Bond and Emily (Adam) Myers. She is also survived by extended family: Steven (Karyn) Skalla, Weston Skalla, Owen Skalla, Tracey (Larry) Burghduff, Aurora Burghduff, Quinn Burghduff. The Lord blessed Liola with many nieces and nephews: Ginger (Taryn) Hale-Walters, Kenneth Walters, Sandy (Robert) Klapper, Randy (Cindy) Schultz, and Lloyd (Helen) Bender and well as many friends.
Liola is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Terry.
A funeral service for Liola Crown will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Montello. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until the hour of service. Pastor Pete Zietlow will preside and burial will take place at 2:00 PM at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Beaver Dam. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 313 E. Montello Street, WI 53949.
