Lewis Wohlgefahrt

Lewis Frank Wohlgefahrt, age 89 of Oxford passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday evening, November 9, 2015. Lewis was born to Fred and Freida Wohlgefahrt in South Milwaukee on July 8, 1926. He attended South Milwaukee High School where he began an apprenticeship in pattern making and millwork. He served overseas in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was married on May 25, 1946 to June Rae L. Werner and together they began their family in Racine. As their family grew, Lewis pursued his love of wood working and partnered in a successful cabinet making business. The family later built a new home in Kenosha County where many gatherings created memories for children and grandchildren. Upon retirement, Lewis and June made a home in Black River Falls at their vacation cabin where he enjoyed hunting and holidays with family. He will be remembered as a kind, humble and warm man who always had a big smile. He especially enjoyed reading, bowling, and dancing. Lewis is survived by his wife of 69 years, June Rae and six children: June Rae Free of Oxford, Kathleen Peterson of Oxford, Lewis (Karen) Wohlgefahrt Jr. of Oxford, Gerry (Nancy) Wohlge of Colorado, Howard (Gwen) Wohlgefahrt of Racine and Sandy (Michael) Gauntt of Oxford. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Lewis is further survived by his sister, LaVerne (Tom) Pinkowski of Waupaca and their sons. Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, two sons- in- law: Roger Peterson and Alton Ray Free as well as his nephew, Tom Pinkowski Jr. A funeral service for Lewis will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Crawford Funeral Home in Oxford. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Chaplin Mike Amberg will officiate and burial with full military honors will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery, town of Westfield. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that is being established in Lewis's name.
