Lawrence "Larry" O'Connell

Lawrence “Larry” O’Connell, age 76 of Oxford passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 at his home.  Larry was born in Chicago on January 5, 1948 to Lawrence and Lorraine (Cummings) O’Connell.  He graduated from St. Mel’s High School and went to work in the trades.   Larry retired after a 40 plus year career as an Iron Worker.  He moved to Oxford in the mid-1980s and married his friend of many years, Margaret “Marge” Skonie in 2006.  They enjoyed many wonderful years together; Marge preceded Larry in death on September 8, 2013. 

Larry enjoyed farming and spending time with his horses and even participated in area rodeos.  He was always willing to help others, often putting others’ needs before his own.  Larry will be remembered for his straightforward personality and endlessly watching the Bears lose.

Larry is survived by two daughters: Mikalene Jones of Oxford and Michele (Jeff) Allen of Palm Harbor, FL and her two grandchildren: Brittney (Shaun) Claridge and Parker Jones.  He is also survived by his great-grandson, Liam.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marge.

A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM at the Oxford VFW.
