Kathryn “Kit” Ann Prate, age 85 of Portage (formerly of Endeavor) passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Kit was born in West Chicago, IL on November 12, 1938 to Stephen and Zelda (Brown) Wiesbrock. She graduated from high school in West Chicago and married Jerry Prate Sr. on April 1, 1956. Together they moved West to several different locations before ultimately settling in Endeavor. Jerry preceded Kit in death on February 19, 1991.

Kit was an author of western novels and enjoyed riding horses as well as playing the piano. She also worked as a consultant for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Kit loved to spend time with family and will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor and storytelling.

Kit is survived by two children: Jeanne (John Lobeck) Dagley of Oxford and Jerry “Chip” (Roxanne Haley) Prate Jr. of Endeavor as well as nine grandchildren: Stacey (Scott), Shellie (Matt), Justin (Kaleena), Nikki, William (Shannon), Candie, Daniel (Jessica), Derek (Joelle) and Crystal (Anthony). She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, sister, Grace Toms, daughter-in-law, Barbara Prate as well as special and appreciated nephews: Kevin and Michael (Nikki) along with other extended family members. 

Kit is preceded in death by her parents, brother: Leonard, sisters: Lola and Ardith, husband, two sons: Robert (Kathie) and William and granddaughter, Josephine.

Kathryn “Kit” Prate will be laid to rest at the Hill Crest Cemetery in Endeavor with private family services.
