Karen Joyce Sorensen , age 81 of Oxford passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 27, 2020 at Harris Villa Assisted Living in Westfield. Karen was born at St. Saviors Hospital in Portage WI to Eli and Aimee (Manteufel) Sorensen on April 20, 1939. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1957 and furthered her education at the Milwaukee School of Nursing, graduating in 1960. Karen was employed as a Registered Nurse in Milwaukee until 1980, after returning home she was employed by the Marquette County District Attorney as a secretary/paralegal until her retirement in 2005.
Karen enjoyed her retirement years living on the “Home Farm” spending valuable time with her sister Margaret. Karen enjoyed all of the animals that came to her home for their daily visits, the deer, turkeys, pheasants, ducks, cranes and all of the varieties of song birds that sat at her window waiting for their daily feast. Karen could predict, to the day, when the birds would return to her home. They all brought special meaning to Karen.
Karen especially loved “Somers” her special Golden Retriever as well as her house cats. She enjoyed the “Country Life” and all of the beauty it provided.
Karen was a prolific reader, she always enjoyed spirited conversation about world history, politics and current events.
Karen was an avid live sports fan, enjoying the Packers, Bucks, Badgers, Brewers and Tennis. She became an expert “Arm Chair” quarterback.
Karen looked forward to all the family gatherings with her cousins and at Kim and Martha’s watching their children and grandchildren grow and sharing the special moments together.
Karen’s family would thank Nan, Lindsey and the incredible staff at Harris Villa, for their loving and compassionate care for Karen, with the help of Agrace Hospice’s comfort and support, Karen’s end of life journey was filled with love and caring. May God Bless everyone who entered Karen’s life.
Karen is survived by her nephew, Corey Glienke and dear cousin, Kim (Martha) Gaffney of Oxford. She is also survived by many cousins and special friends, Carol Jaksic, Sara Mathy, and Ken Glienke.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Truman, sister, Margaret Laue and niece, Carrie Stewart.
Honoring Karen’s wishes, a graveside service led by Pastor Donald Wedel will be held at the Oxford Village Cemetery on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
