Joseph Waldner

Joseph "Joe" Waldner, age 71 of Portage passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital. Joe was born on September 9, 1944 in Huron, South Dakota to Joseph and Susanna (Grosz) Waldner. He served his country as a member of United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his time in service, he relocated to Wisconsin and married Bonnie Unterseher and together they raised four children. Joe was a self-employed salesman for many years and really never fully retired. He was a diehard Packer fan and in his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, hunting and water skiing. Above all else, Joe had a deep faith and love for his savior, Jesus. His family, the cookouts and the time they spent together was very important. Joe leaves behind his four children: Lisa (Peter) Smith of Portage, Pamela (Mark Kenny) Waldner of Dodgeville, Brenda (Dan) Barton of Portage and Joseph of Florida as well as nine grandchildren. He is also survived by eight siblings: Lena (Jim) Waldner, John (Ruth), Margaret (Chris) Waldner, Reuben (Ruth), Melvin (Anita), Kathy (Sam) Wollman, Peter (Debbie) and Sam as well as sister-in-law, Mary Waldner. Joe is further survived by many nieces, nephews and especially, Rita and Mike Kleinsasser and the mother of his children, Bonnie Griffin. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Daniel and Paul. A funeral service for Joseph will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Bible Church in Portage. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Pastor Mike Kleinsasser will preside and burial with full military honors will follow the service at Silver Lake Cemetery in Portage. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that is being established in Joe's name.
