John Travis

John J. Travis Jr., age 82 of Montello (formerly of Schaumburg, IL) passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at The Residences on Forest Lane in Montello. John was born on December 27, 1928 in Chicago to John Sr. and Mary (Trlak) Travis. He attended York High School in Elmhurst, Il and later served his country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. On July 31, 1961 John married Sue Ann Shell in Jonas Ridge, NC, she preceded him in death on October 5, 2010. Together they lived and worked in the Chicago area. They moved to Montello in July of 2010 to be closer to family. John enjoyed collecting gem stones, fishing and writing poetry. John is survived by two brothers: Martin (Irene) of Montello and Kenneth (Sandy) of Schaumburg, IL as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Hazel Shell of North Carolina. John is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Lillian Klante and brothers-in-law: Johnny Shell and Ernst 'Bud' Klante. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, Montello. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will follow at Montello City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Residences on Forest Lane.
