John Carroll Spillner Sr. , age 71 of Montello passed away suddenly early Saturday morning, May 23, 2015 at his home. John was born in Joliet, IL on June 2, 1943 to Justus and Alice (Schmidt) Spillner Sr. He graduated from Montello High School, completed his Bachelor's Degree in education at UW La Crosse and became a teacher himself. John taught for over thirty years in the Montello School System. He coached baseball as well as football for many years; leading several teams to conference titles. John was proud of his family and their accomplishments; family gathering at the pond were very important to him. He was an avid outdoorsman; especially hunting and fishing. John also was well known for his masonry skills, working on many projects in the area. Above all else, John liked to help others and will be remembered as a kind hearted person with an interesting sense of humor. John leaves behind his wife, Li Wang and nine children: Lashell Spillner of Montello, John (Carolyn) Spillner of Colorado, Benjamin Spillner of Colorado, Valerie (Dewayne) Alley of Alabama, Wendy (David) Breiwa of Packwaukee, Joseph Spillner of Omro, Casandra Gifford and Mykayla Spilllner, both of Ripon and Logan Spillner of Madison. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren as well as two sisters: Janet (Larry) Waldman of Stitzer and Judith (Terry) Meinen of Altoona. John is further survived by his first wife, Nancy Spillner of Packwaukee and former wife, Joan Wade of Ripon as well as other relatives, friends and countless players he coached. John is preceded in death by his parents, Justus Spillner Sr. and Alice Spillner Lischefske, step father, Fred Lischefske, brother, Justus Jr. , infant sister, Joann Kay Lischefske, and an infant granddaughter, Sara Pauline Spillner. A memorial service for John will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Brenda Pulver will lead the service and private family inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, any memorials received will be presented to the MHS baseball team in John's memory.
