John Schlage Jr., age 91 of Oxford passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Meriter Hospital in Madison. John was born on August 18, 1924 in Chicago to John and Catherine (Baldygowski) Schlage Sr. John served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Evelyn Juanita "Nita" Berberich; she preceded him in death. During John's working years, he was employed for over 25 years by Precision Extrusion in Bensenville, IL as a Quality Control Inspector until retirement. He has been a resident of Oxford for over 30 years. John enjoyed fishing, yard work and traveling to Minnesota. He was a life member of the Oxford VFW where he enjoyed bingo with his "lady friends."
John is survived by two daughters: Evelyn (Joe Dezonno) Schlage of Wood Dale, IL and Lori (Lance) Malzewski of Lombard, IL as well as two granddaughters: Melanie and Ryan (Brian). He is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Jaxin and Ava along with nephew, Andy Berberich and other extended family. John is further survived by his canine companion, Cody. John is preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, John "Little John" Schlage and his beloved dog, Shadow. A funeral service for John will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home of Oxford. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial with full military honors will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Lakeview Cemetery, town of Jackson, Adams County.
