John R. Koceja, age 70 of Montello/Lake Puckaway passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 30, 2012 at the Markesan Resident Home. John was born at home in St. Francis, WI on April 28, 1941 to Raymond and Mary Koceja. On September 14, 1963 he married Mary Jane Dunn at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in West Allis, WI. Together they were blessed with two children. John enjoyed woodworking, especially building custom radio boxes for CB radios as well as creating beautiful home interiors. He truly loved to create beauty everywhere he was. John worked for AC Spark Plug in Oak Creek, WI for ten years in the early 1960's during the space race; he later worked for UPS as a semi driver for 27 years. He earned multiple awards for over one million miles of accident free driving before retiring in 1996. In 1997, they permanently moved to Montello to enjoy their retirement on Lake Puckaway. John was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Montello where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Jane and their two children: Jill Koceja of Milwaukee and Jeff Koceja of Montello. He is also survived by his sister, Alice (Bob) Pedersen of Raymond, MO as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives. John is preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Father Michael Richel will officiate and burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Montello. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
