Joanne Singles

Joanne Singles, age 75 of Montello died Friday evening, December 23, 2011 at the Ripon Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with Leukemia. Joanne was born in St. Charles, IL on June 24, 1936 to Charles and Ruth (Baker) Skinner. She graduated in 1954 from St. Charles High School and on June 28, 1958 she married Arnold Singles in Elgin, IL, he preceded her in death on March 16, 2011. In 1980 Joanne moved to Montello, together she and her husband owned and operated the Montello Resort (now known as the Bayview Resort) on Montello Lake. She was a very caring individual; she loved her family very much and was willing to help anyone who needed it. Joanne donated large amounts of her time to homeless shelters as well as humane societies. She also worked at American Legion Post 351 in Montello for many years where she built many strong friendships. Joanne will be missed by the many people that she touched throughout her life. Joanne is survived by her four children: Chuck (Teresa) of Freeport, IL, Arnold Jr. of Westfield, Jennifer Marchand of Portage and Linda Contreras of Montello. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Sebastian, Nick, Megan, Trenton, Mason, Samantha and Tony and one sister, Sue Karlsson and brother, Vern Skinner. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Joanne is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Debra Gudmundson, son-in-law, Charles Contreras and one sister, Belva Hill. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, Montello; there will be no service. Following the visitation, friends are welcome to gather at American Legion Post 351 in Montello. Joanne will be cremated following the visitation and inurned at the Montello City Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
