Jane Elizabeth Kronschnabel, age 83 of Harrisville passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023 along with her husband, James as a result of an automobile accident. Jane was born in Algoma on September 13, 1940 to Robert and Sarah Slaby (Haack). She graduated from Algoma High School and furthered her education at UW-Oshkosh (Bachelor of Science degree in English and Latin) where she met James Kronschnabel. She was one of seven candidates for becoming Homecoming Queen of Oshkosh State College in 1961. It was generally agreed upon that Jim Kronschnabel was batting way out of his league, and yet the two were united in marriage on August 22, 1964 in Algoma. Together they moved to Harrisville in 1967 and raised two sons.
Jane worked as a teacher for the Montello School District. Many will remember her for her sharp wit and great sense of humor. She was a master of preparing excellent home cooked food, which was evidenced by the size of the male bellies in the Kronschnabel family. Jane was very loving and giving to her family and friends. She was incredibly creative and constantly displayed this over the years in various projects such as refinishing furniture, painting and holiday decorations. Jane was also a voracious reader and frequent library patron. In later years her greatest title became Grandma; a job that she once again proved to be fantastic at by showering her grandchildren with knowledge and affection.
Jane is survived by her two sons: Nick (significant other, Ellen Barron) of Harrisville and Mathew (Dianna) of Westfield as well as two very special grandchildren: Hannah and Macallister James. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn “Lou” Graf, sister-in-law, Joan Slaby as well as other extended family members.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Rob Slaby and brother-in-law, Ron Graf.
A Celebration of Life for James and Jane Kronschnabel will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 12:00 until 5:00 PM at the Harrisville Sportsman’s Club. They will be laid to rest privately at the Sheldon Cemetery, Town of Harris with full military honors for Jim. In lieu of flowers, please go plant a tree in memory of Jim and buy a child a book in memory of Jane.
Crawford Funeral and Cremation Service of Montello and Oxford is honored to be serving the family. www.CrawfordFH.com
