James 'Jim' Thompson, age 85 of Montello (formerly of Carol Stream, IL) passed away following a brief illness Wednesday afternoon, November 14, 2012 at the Berlin Memorial Hospital. Jim was born in Natchez, Mississippi to Preston and Mildred (King) Thompson on February 27, 1927. He was raised and attended school in Mississippi and later served his country as a member of the United States Navy. On September 30, 1978 he married Emily Eisenbeis in Northlake, IL; she preceded him in death in January of 1999. Jim worked as a machinist for Boyer-Schultz in the Chicago area for over 20 years. He moved to Montello in 2006 to be closer to family. Even though he was faced with progressive macular degeneration, he still enjoyed following his sports teams. Jim loved his family very much and immensely enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Jim leaves behind two children: Sharon (Dick) Smith of Montello and Kenneth (Barbara) Riend of Niles, IL as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters and nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Emily and his son, George Riend as well as two sisters. Following Jim's wishes, he will be cremated and no services will be held. He will be inurned at Eden Cemetery, Schiller Park, IL at a later date.
