Iva M. Crawford, age 91, of Westfield passed away peacefully Monday morning, October 28, 2013 at Harris Villa Assisted Living in Westfield. She was born August 4, 1922 in the town of Springfield, Marquette County the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Dixon) Gibson. She attended Oak Dale rural school and graduated from Westfield High School in 1939. She continued her education at Waushara County Normal and also Central State Teacher's College at Stevens Point. Iva became an elementary teacher and taught several years in the schools of Marquette County.
In 1947 she married James A. Crawford and to this happy marriage two children were born, Robert and Jane. Iva was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield, where served as an elder and financial secretary for many years. She enjoyed children; was a 4-H leader, a Sunday school teacher and dearly loved her grandchildren. Jim and Iva were nature lovers and enjoyed camping with their family, traveling, canoeing, reading, sports and flowers. They were past members of the Westfield Jolly Squares and she also belonged to the Happy Hour Homemakers, the American Legion Auxiliary, Marquette County Historical Society and various other groups. In Iva's words, her lifetime was one of service to her family, her church and community. She leaves behind her two children: Robert (Pamela) Crawford DDS of Westfield and Jane (Mervin "Bud") Peterson of Scandinavia, WI. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Erin (Ben Bainbridge) Crawford DVM of Bellevue, ID, Michael (Cathlene) Crawford of Montello, Ilsa (Matthew Hoeschen) Peterson of Duluth, MN and Tamas Peterson of Northfield, MN as well as one great-grandson, Kevin Crawford. She is further survived by a sister, Ina Penberthy of Sun Prairie as well as nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Iva is preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Tobin Peterson, brother, Dan Gibson and a sister, Edna Markstahler. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Westfield. Visitation will be held on Friday evening at the church from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Stephen L. Bowie will preside and burial will follow the service at the Westfield East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for all memorials be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield.
