Hubert Koss

Hubert 'Hubie' Koss, age 57 of Montello passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 1, 2011. He was born in Beckum, Germany on December 9, 1953 to Otto and Lilly (Jeschke) Koss. Hubie immigrated with his family to Madison in 1955 and graduated from Oregon High School in 1971. Hubie served his country as a member of the United States Army and after his honorable discharge in 1973 he completed his carpenter apprenticeship. For six years, Hubie took a break from construction to operate his family farm with then wife, Nancy. In December of 2008, Hubie retired from being a journeyman carpenter. During his career he also served as apprenticeship coordinator for south central Wisconsin. In his retirement he worked at Thal Acres golf course in Westfield. In his spare time, Hubie enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, playing horseshoes and woodworking. Hubie will be remembered for his joke telling, his furniture making, never wanting to waste a beautiful morning and his unconditional love for his children. Hubie is survived by his mother, Lilly, four children: Jerry (Emily) of Oregon, Andrea (fianci�½ Clint Dretske) of Oregon, Jake (Meredith) of Oregon and Catie (significant other Dave Becka) of Madison. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Madeline and brother, Klaus (Mary) of Stoughton as well as special friend, Laura Prest of Montello and her daughter, Barb (Paul) Hartl and Laura's grandsons, Aaron and Ben. Hubie is further survived by the mother of his children, Nancy (Haak) Kratzenberg of Belleville and several nieces, nephews and many friends. Hubie is preceded in death by his father, Otto. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Rohde officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until the hour of service.
