Helen Zweifel

Helen Marion (Frick) Zweifel, age 97, of Montello passed away peacefully early Saturday morning August 13, 2011 surrounded by her family at the Montello Care Center. Helen was born in New Glarus, WI on September 28, 1913; the third child of Jacob and Amalia (Tschudy) Frick. She was baptized and confirmed at the Zwingli Swiss Reformed Church of New Glarus; Helen was very proud of her Swiss heritage. She graduated Valedictorian from New Glarus High School in 1931 and then attended UW-Whitewater. Helen was married on August 16, 1933 to Homer Zweifel in Dixon, Illinois. Together they owned several businesses in the New Glarus and Montello area. After his death in 1956, Helen returned to school and graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 1963. She taught elementary school in Apple River, Illinois and Slinger, Wisconsin for over 20 years until retiring in 1978. Helen was an exceptionally compassionate and caring individual. Her life was well lived. Helen had the opportunity to see many changes in the world in her almost century of life. Helen enjoyed her family, her home, shopping, the newspaper, and also flowers. Helen was affiliated with the Methodist Church Retired Teachers and Melody Chapter #ISO order of The Eastern Star. Her kind and gentle nature will always be remembered by her family and friends. Helen will live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her. Helen is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Richard) Kilbride-Becker of Montello, two sons: Zane of Montello and Edward of Platteville. Grandchildren George (Leslie) Kilbride of Reno, NV, Mary (Darrell) Kromm of Reeseville, Mark Zweifel of New Haven, CT, Julie (John) Pluemer of Platteville. Great-grandchildren: Kay (Justin) Kromm of Seward, NE, Lynn Kromm of Cavy, NC, Rana and Kallena Pluemer of Platteville, Forrest & Lance Kilbride of Reno, Nevada. In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Sylvan (Mildred) and Wilbert (Hazel) Frick as well as two grand children: Margaret and Mike Kilbride; son-in-law, George Kilbride and daughter-in-law, Marge Zweifel. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Pastor Dawn Helton-Anishnaabeqwa will preside and burial will take place at Highland Cemetery in Monticello, WI.
