Helen Peura

Helen Virginia Peura, age 82 of Oxford passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo after a lengthy battle with cancer. Helen was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Kenneth and Esther (Rudolph) Drinkwine on February 10, 1931. She later married Karl Peura on April 2, 1976 in Kenosha; he preceded her in death on January 22, 2000. She was also affectionately known as "Helen of Oxford." Helen worked various jobs throughout her life as well as caring for her family. She was employed by JC Penny and a candy factory in Kenosha as well as Maggie Mae's and Borud's Hardware in Oxford. Helen enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and also playing shuffle board. She will always be remembered for the hundreds of lap robes she made for her friends, local nursing homes and hospice organizations. Helen's kind and caring spirit and witty sense of humor will be greatly missed. Helen leaves behind her three children: Julie (Gregg) Sinnen, Karl (Roberta) Peura Jr. and Cindy Peura all of Kenosha as well as twelve grandchildren: Matthew, Robert, Kari Ann, Jessica, Lee Michael, Marci, Dan, Karl Jr., Kasey, Kyle, Cody and Chandra. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren and sister, Shirley Detienne. Helen is further survived by sister-in-law, Phyllis Drinkwine, many nieces and nephews and special friends: Vicky Meister and Eugene Jorgenson. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Karl, son, Michael, two brothers: Robert and Kenneth Drinkwine as well as her nephew, David Drinkwine and brother-in-law, David Detienne. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at the Crawford Funeral Home of Oxford, 306 S. Franklin Avenue. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Brenda Pulver will preside and following the service, Helen will be laid to rest at the Oxford Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Budda-Box Fight Against Cancer, P.O. Box 91, Westfield, WI 53964.
