Harold A. Kasten, age 88 of Montello, ended his life's walk early Monday, October 11, 2010 at his home. He was born on May 6, 1922 in Wausau, WI to Albert and Lesa (Meihack) Kasten. Harold valiantly served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corp from 1940 until 1945. On September 6, 1953 he married Anita Miller in Milwaukee and together they had three children. Harold believed that a day gone by without a lesson learned was a day wasted. His life was a reflection of his faith in Jesus Christ and he was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church of Montello for many years. Harold filled his time as an avid outdoorsman, helping others and above all else spending time with his family. Both his wisdom and love are irreplaceable. Survivors include three children: Lisa Decker of Grafton, Susan (Donald) Ahonen of Markesan and Steven (Lu Ann) of Montello and three grandchildren: Thomas, Lauren and Sally. Harold is also survived by one sister, Ruth VanSlett of Wausau, as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. Preceding Harold in death are his parents, wife, son-in-law, Frank Decker and two brothers, Alvin and Myron Kasten. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Montello with Pastor Rolfe Westendorf officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Montello City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. A special thanks goes to Agnesian HealthCare Hospice Hope, daughter-in-law, Lu Ann, Ginger Kraus and sister-in-law, Helen for all their care and concern throughout Harold's illness.
