Gordon Fabian

July 29, 1928 — February 14, 2019

Gordon Floyd Fabian , age 90 of Oxford, joined his Savior in Heaven Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, at home, surrounded by family. Gordon was born in Wauwatosa, Wis., on July 29, 1928, to Floyd and Emma (Ninham) Fabian. At age 16 he began his lifelong passion with automobiles and airplanes when he bought his first car and earned his pilot’s license. Gordon graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1946 and joined the United States Marine Corps. He served on the island of Guam and as a U.S. Navy pilot in Pensacola, Fla., before an honorable discharge just six days before the Korean Conflict began. After returning to the Milwaukee area, he worked at Louis Allis Co., Linnehan Welding, Wisconsin Welding and as an instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College, where he earned his associates degree.

Gordon celebrated 50 years of marriage to Marjorie Cox Fabian in 2017. After his retirement from teaching in 1991, the couple moved from Waukesha to a beautiful hobby farm in Oxford along Neenah Creek, where they raised labrador retrievers, chickens and ducks to the delight of their many grandchildren. Gordon enjoyed a great sense of humor, telling jokes and making puns that kept his family laughing. He was a dedicated servant of the Lutheran church his whole life, and was a steadfast Christian role model to his children and grandchildren. He had great love for this family, offering unwavering support, attendance at his grandchildren’s school activities, written cards, letters and poetry and the best advice - from what car to buy to staying strong in your faith, always. Gordon loved playing golf with family and friends and was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers. In 2014 he was honored among a group of veterans on the Badger Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., accompanied by his son, Peter. Gordon led an active life well into his late 80s, offering humor and kindness to all who knew him.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marjorie, and his children Linda (Ed) Gill, Susan (Bill) Johnson, Andrew Fabian, Sharon (Mark) Spence, Caroline Fabian Heibler, Paul (Lori) Fabian and Peter Fabian, grandchildren Robert (Christina) Gill, James (Cassandera) Gill, Shannon McNulty, Riley (Keith) Sellers, Andrew (Anna) Hofmann, Katy Mae Hofmann, Sean Sullivan, Kelly Sullivan, Elisabeth (Lance) Crawford, Michelle Fabian, Kayla Spence, Alexandria Spence, Jordan Spence, Joy Spence, Laura Heibler, Melanie Heibler, Rebecca Heibler and Katherine Heibler, eight great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two brothers, Alan (Pat) Fabian and Dennis (Cathy) Fabian. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Jessica Spence. He was a member of the Oneida Nation.
