Genevieve 'Gen' Schlaefer, age 91 of Milwaukee (formerly of Montello) passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, February 1, 2012 at St. Camillus Assisted Living in Wauwatosa. Gen was born in Montello on July 12, 1920 at home to Nicholas and Mary Schlaefer. She was a secretary for the United Auto Workers-Milwaukee for many years until she retired. Gen was a very active and faithful member of the Catholic Church throughout her life. She was an avid reader and liked to learn new things as she attended classes even after completing her formal education. Gen also liked to garden and travel in her spare time. Gen is survived by three siblings: Bernard (Lea) Schlaefer of Wauwatosa, Robert of Montello and Dolores of Montello. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Schlaefer of Princeton as well as many nieces and nephews. Gen is preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Sister Ann Schlaefer, Father Richard Schlaefer, Raymond 'Duke' Schlaefer, Marie Schlaefer, Imelda (Robert) Collins and Father Joseph Schlaefer as well as sister-in-law, Carol Schlaefer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the hour of service. Father Michael Richel, Monsignor John Hebl and Father John Schmitz will concelebrate the mass and burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Montello.
