Garnet Holsted

Garnet (Allen) Holsted, age 81, Township of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2009 at her home. She was born in Hampshire, IL to Ernest and Elta (Tewksbury) Allen on March 23, 1928. On August 27, 1950 she married Don Holsted and together they moved from Hampshire, IL to the Budsin/Crystal Lake area in 1969. Garnet was a very kind and caring person who always had time for her family. You never found her very far from the kitchen; she was known for her biscuits and pies. Other things that brought enjoyment to her life were gardening and fishing in Canada. Garnet served as the Crystal Lake Township clerk/treasurer for over 20 years. She leaves behind her husband of 59 years, one son, Stephen (Kim) of Neshkoro, WI, two daughters: Gail (Bill) Kyser of Viroqua, WI and Marge (Stan) Crone of Denmark, WI. She is also survived by four grandsons: Clinton (Ann) Ackman, Matthew Ackman and Johann and Zachary Holsted as well as two great-grandsons Shannon and Chandler Ackman. She is further survived by two sisters Cleo Van Vleet of Hampshire, IL and Lois Allen of Belvidere, IL. Garnet is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Crawford (formerly Steinhaus-Wachholz) Funeral Home, 453 E. Park St., Montello. Visitation will be held on Friday, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and again at 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday. Rev. Robert Blackburn will officiate and burial will follow at the Tagatz-Matz Cemetery, Township of Crystal Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Neshkoro Methodist Church-Stain Glass Window Fund.
