Frederick 'Fritz' Ford, age 84 of Montello died unexpectedly at his home Sunday morning, May 8, 2011. Fritz was born in Janesville, WI on July 7, 1926 to Frederick and Claire (Clapp) Ford. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1944 and then joined the Navy where he valiantly served his country during World War II. Fritz married Helen Connors at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Janesville on August 9, 1947 and from that union came six children. While in Janesville, Fritz was very active at St. Patrick's Catholic Church where he served on many organizations, committees and at many church functions. Fritz retired from Gateway Transportation and Connors Supply after many years of faithful service. In 2000, they moved to their log home on Buffalo Lake. As a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello Fritz also remained active, serving on numerous committees as well as singing in the choir. He was also a member of the Montello Lions Club. Fritz leaves behind his wife, Helen of 64 years, and five children: Steven (Sue) of De Forest, David (Diane) of Poynette, Patricia (Jeff) Staffon of Idaho Falls, ID, Frederick (Cheryl) of Janesville and Michael of Montello. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren as well as his sister, Claire Damrow and his dog 'Buddy.' He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fritz is preceded in death by his parents, son Jim, and siblings, Vincent, Margaret Murray and Rosemary Heise. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello with Father Michael Richel officiating. Visitation will held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial with full military honors will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Janesville.
