Florence L. Skorka, age 89 of Oxford passed away peacefully at her home on October 25, 2013. Florence was born in Chicago on July 22, 1924 to Ernest and Veronica (Bergeron) Ceglarek. Growing up with her family in Bucktown on Chicago's north side, she met and married Edwin Skorka at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in 1946. Edwin preceded her in death in December 1964. Florence worked as a dental office manager and dental assistant for 25 years. She remained in Chicago, retiring to Wisconsin to live with her daughter and son-in-law in 2001. As a young woman, Florence loved ballroom dancing at The Aragon Ballroom and roller-skating at the Hub Roller Rink in Chicago. She attended Chicago's Theater on the Lake with her brother Tom and sister-in-law Evelyn. Her hobbies grew to include baking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, reading, playing Scrabble with her family, and bingo. In later years, Florence participated in Red Hatters, enjoyed an occasional casino outing with her brother Dan and sister and brother-in-law, Bernadine and Dennis, and looked forward to her annual winter trip to Florida with her daughter Connie and son-in-law Paul. A woman of deep faith, Florence was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Westfield, WI. Florence was the beloved mother of Constance "Connie" (Paul) Calamari; cherished grandmother of Ellen Marie Pierce and Jennifer Lynn Pierce; fond sister of the late Thomas (Evelyn) Ceglarek, the late Robert (Shirley) Ceglarek, Mary (the late Norbert) Maslowski, Daniel (the late Darlene) Ceglarek, Bernadine (Dennis) Trudell, Joseph (Catherine) Ceglarek, the late James "Jimmy" Ceglarek, and the late Bernice Ceglarek; devoted niece and caregiver of the late Victoria (Bergeron) Hamm; honored godmother of Cathy Maslowski-Yerges; loving aunt of many nieces and nephews; dear friend of many in Illinois, Michigan, New York and Florida, particularly John Pierce. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Father David Carrano will preside and private family inurnment will take place at a later date at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. For the past ten years, Florence has sponsored children's education through the Christian Foundation For Children And Aging. This sponsorship included regular correspondence with the child and family, most recently a young boy named Edwin from Honduras.
