Fern Marshall

Fern E. Marshall, age 83 of Montello passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, February 29, 2012 at Tivoli Nursing Home in Portage. Fern was born in Winter, WI on July 29, 1928 to Richard and Louisa (Hammon) Nelson. She married Ralph Marshall in Dolton, IL on July 2, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and from that union came two children. Fern and Ralph lived and worked in Dolton until retiring to Montello in 1990. She loved to play cards and also enjoyed reading and listening to music. Fern immensely enjoyed her family, especially when everyone was together. Fern is survived by her husband, Ralph of almost 57 years and their two children: Dan of St. Paul, MN and Mari Jo (Larry) Blank of Duluth, MN. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Matthew, Toni and Ryan as well as two great-grandchildren: Riley and Mina. She is further survived by her sister, Etta Kramp of Montello and her brother, Darwin (Helen) Nelson of Roswell, NM as well as brothers-in-law: Rich Marshall of Milwaukee and Robert (Gabrielle) Marshall of Santiago, Chile and sister-in-law, Carol Nelson of Hayward, WI. Fern is also survived by many nieces, nephews and others relatives. Fern is preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Margaret and Harriet and her brother, Arvid. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Crawford Funeral Home, 453 E. Park Street, Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the hour of service. Pastor Blaine Niskanen will officiate and following the traditional service, Fern will be cremated. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Winter, WI.
