Eugene “Gene” James Rouse, age 82 of Montello passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. Gene was born in Antigo and graduated from Waukesha South High School in 1956. Gene married Diane Rich on October 10, 1969 in Illinois; together they resided in the Waukesha area while raising their family. In 2000, Gene retired after many faithful years of employment at Wisconsin Centrifugal (now known as MetalTek) as a furnace repairman, he and Diane moved to Necedah and in 2016 relocated to rural Montello to be closer to family. Gene enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing as well as gardening and always cheered on his beloved Green Bay Packers. He loved to spend time with family particularly his grand and great-grandchildren.
Gene leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Diane and three daughters: Christine Carpenter of Reedsburg, Diana Winchel of Montello and Betty (Scott) Bartelt of Montello as well as six grandchildren: Josh (Brea), Joseph (Amanda), Nikita (Jacob), Abigail, Daisy and Jessica. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Mary Rouse.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Roger (Amanda), Tom (Jan), Joe (Phyllis), Casper Jr. and Lydia (Larry) Stites.
A public visitation with social distancing for Eugene Rouse will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. A graveside service led by Pastor Mike Vargo will take place at 3:00 PM at the Shields Cemetery (County J, just West of State Rd 22). In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family.
