Erna Pohl

Erna Elnora (Gilgann) Pohl, age 88, of Newton Township, peacefully joined other family and friends in heavenly peace on Thursday evening, November 19, 2009 at the Montello Care Center. Erna was born on July 16, 1921 to Paul and Ananda (Schwanke) Gilgann in the Township of Crystal Lake, Marquette County, WI. In her younger years she worked in Dubuque, Iowa and also in a defense plant in Illinois during World War II. It wasn't until June 14, 1947 that she married Arnold Pohl at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Germania, WI. Together they lived on the Pohl Family Farm in Newton Township for 52 years; after his passing she remained there for several years until moving to the Montello Care Center in August of 2006. Survivors include: one son, Luther (Sandy) Pohl of Cambria and granddaughter Kendra Pohl, of Cambria, WI and one brother, Eldon (June) Gilgann of Montello. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings: Leona, Fred , Gust, Evaline Dunbar, infant Elmer, Edward, and Ervin. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newton Township. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Rev. Ronald Schultz will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
