Elaine L. Bentley, age 84 of Montello passed away Sunday evening, March 24, 2013 at UW Hospital in Madison. Elaine was born in Marshfield, WI on April 7, 1928 to Sigert and Lydia (Griepentrog) Nelson and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point. She furthered her education at Central State College (now known as UW-Stevens Point) and earned a degree in education. Elaine married Kenneth Bentley on April 3, 1948 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Stevens Point and together they raised eight children. Elaine was an avid bridge player and was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. When her health allowed, she was a member of St. Ann's Counsel of Catholic Women of St. John's Parish as well as the Montello Women's Club. She volunteered at numerous places as well as working in the family business. Though she did teach kindergarten in Montello for three years, her true passion was raising and caring for her family. Elaine leaves behind her husband of almost 65 years, Ken and seven children: Patrick (Marietta) of Princeton, Mary Barber of Chicago, Michael (Elizabeth) of Nova Scotia, Canada, Marc (Josie) of Middleton, Jane Bentley of Chicago, Kathy (Mark Hoffmeister) Bentley of Chicago and Kenneth of Waupaca. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren: Brian, Erin (Charles), Ryan (Stephanie), Jess (fiance Amber), Megan, Joseph (Molly), Anna (Zach), Brandon, Jesslyn, Nathan, Christopher, Bridget (Brad), Katie, Rick (Christie), Bentley and Rohn as well as seven great-grandchildren. Elaine is further survived by a son-in-law, Fritz and three siblings: Dale Nelson, Gerrie Martini and Lois Hofmeister. In addition to her parents, Elaine is also preceded in death by her daughter, Anne Joachim, son-in-law, Joe Barber and her brother, Charles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Father David Carrano will officiate and a private family burial will take place at St. Stephens Catholic Cemetery, Stevens Point, WI.
