Edith Helen Murray was born at home on April 24, 1922 in Montello, WI to Alfred Murray and Bella (McPherson) Murray. She passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Meriter Hospital in Madison, with family by her side at age 90. Edith attended Montello Schools and graduated from Montello High School in 1939. Upon moving to Madison she worked as a baker for Bjelde's Pie Shop. In 1960 she started her 27 year career with the City of Madison Health Department working at the Madison Schools with the school nurses i�½ a career she loved. After retirement she continued to enjoy her many travels to Europe, Alaska, Australia, and other parts of the United States. On January 5, 1958, Edie survived the Death House gas explosion on Bassett Street. She had taken an unplanned trip back home for the week-end. Edie enjoyed many years singing with the Madison Sweet Adelines. Edie considered all of her nieces and nephews as 'her kids'. Aunt Edie enjoyed showering 'her kids' with love and gifts. She was fondly known as the Wisconsin Santa. Until recently she remembered all her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews at Christmas and on their birthdays. Edie is survived by her brother, Tom (Betty) Murray of Montello, nieces and nephews: Tom (Jane) Murray, Cheryl Murray, Bob (Lynn) Dixon, Bonnie (David) Heath, Carol (Keith) Ottoson, Peggy Murray, Cindy (Marly) Bahmer, Jan (Jon) Ebert, John (Susan) Murray, Jay (Pam) Murray, and Tom (Joy) Dixon and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Edie was predeceased by her brothers and their spouses: Mac (Ethel) and Jim (Mavis), and her sisters and their husbands Isabel (Harry) Baxter and Mary (Dwight) Dixon. The family would like to thank the staff and wonderful care givers at Walnut Grove, Middleton, for the care given to Aunt Edie the past two years. A funeral service for Edie will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, W3032 Park St., Montello. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Montello City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church of Montello.
