Duane "Dewey" Allen Schwartz, age 83 of Montello passed away Monday morning July 25, 2016 at UW Hospital in Madison. Dewey was born in Montello on December 9, 1932 to Charles and Maude (Chivers) Schwartz. He graduated from Montello High School in 1950 and furthered his education at UW Stevens Point. Dewey served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1952 until 1955. He returned to Montello and held several positions until becoming a rural route mail carrier; he retired after 25 years of dedicated service.
Dewey will be remembered for coaching sports especially the teams of his sons. He started the American Legion as well as the Home Talent Baseball League for Montello. Dewey had great sense of humor and in retirement enjoyed playing cards and traveling. Dewey is survived by four sons: Timothy (Rosemary) of Wells, MN, Carey (Keri) of Jackson, Randy (Hilary) of Waunakee and Ronald of Glendale, CA as well as 14 grandchildren: Tenley, Tikvah, Jonathan, Samuel, Olivia, Jeremiah, Benjamin, Gabrielle, Victoria, Cassandra, Corinne, Larissa, Austin and Jesse. He is further survived by two brothers: Jack (Anna Jean) of Montello and Robert (Cheryl) of Appleton, the mother of his children, Mary Lou Schwartz of Montello as well as other extended family members and friends. Dewey is preceded in death by his parents, three siblings: Myron, Milton and Neoma (Robert) Schoewe. A funeral service for Duane "Dewey" Schwartz will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Jeff Radley will officiate and burial with full military honors by American Legion Post #351 of Montello will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery, town of Packwaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Montello Care Center, 251 Forest Lane, Montello, WI 53949.
