Duane Marchand

Duane Edmund Marchand, age 85 of Montello passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, December 19, 2014 at the Montello Care Center. Duane was born in Milwaukee on August 25, 1929 to George and Cora (Dvorak) Marchand. He served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1946 until 1948. Duane married Audrey Geist and together they raised their six children until she passed in 1972. He married Esther Brandenburg on March 7, 1981 in Montello. Duane owned and operated the Grand River Oasis Bar for many years; in retirement he still tended bar at various places in the Montello area. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as playing bingo. Duane will be remembered for having a soft spot for animals and his quick wit and sense of humor. Duane is survived by his wife of 33 years, Esther and six children: Ann (Rick) Lewallen of Albuquerque, NM, Doris (James) Culver of Sauk Village, IL, Duan (Jack) Hulett of Jefferson, TX, Matthew (Peggy) of Portage, Susan (Ronald) Zuhlke of Dalton and Duane Jr. (Deb) of Portage as well as step-son, Terry (Amy) Ende of Wisconsin Rapids. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren as well as three siblings: June Stott, James and George (Joyce). Duane is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Duane is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Audrey and step-daughter, Penny Espinoza. A brief time of remembrance led by the family will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home of Montello. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial with full military honors by American Legion Post 351 of Montello will follow the service at the Montello City Cemetery.
